Anita is a local artist who has exhibited widely, both in the UK and internationally, most recently at the Smithsonian Institute of Natural History in Washington DC and the Courtauld Institute at Somerset House in London. She has recently been appointed a full member of the Society of Designer Craftsmen.
Anita specialises in sculptural organic forms that occupy the space between art and science, referencing planktonic creatures that exhibit fantastic, often alien, anatomies. Using simple repetitive stitches, a cell-like fabric creates increasingly complex forms. Through a series of experiments, generative techniques and the mechanism of mutation, she evolves new textile life forms. So far, more than 50 new ‘species’ have been discovered and classified according to Linnaean principles.
